red and yellow and pink and green

October 23, 2008

i’m not complaining, because i’m genuinely amused that my groupmates have such different citation styles, all of which are wrong. i mean, i’ve never been the most accurate citer (?) myself, and even with my mild OCD tendencies i can live and let live. but this is really funny. one of them italicizes everything. one capitalizes everything. one doesn’t include the url for a website. one doesn’t include place and name of publisher.

it really does take all sorts to make the (academic) world. when it comes down to it, it’s the NUS Lit people who can cite. hahahahha. hooray for research workshop!!

sometimes i wonder if i should put up a disclaimer that the things i write about are really not those that preoccupy me.

humility

October 11, 2008

not just pie-in-the-sky.

there is something very subtly crucial about humility. it is that which differentiates the seemingly good and the truly good. it is that which puts us back where we are — dust and ashes.

and our Father in heaven remembers that we are dust; He pities His children as a father would. when we fear Him as we should, humility becomes only natural.

how else would we do it?

“Art produces ugly things which frequently become more beautiful with time. Fashion, on the other hand, produces beautiful things which always become ugly with time.”

-Jean Cocteau, French writer
